Teikanen (貞観園) is one of the best Japanese Garden located in Niigata Prefecture. This garden was built by Murayama family when they moved here in 1673. Since 1673, each lords of Murayama family spent their fortune to build this garden. The house was constructed in 1784. This large garden is fully covered with beautiful moss. The famous artist in Edo, Yosai stayed here and made many painting. This garden is registered as the national scenic beauty.

Tourist Info.
There is parking and restroom. (Parking is located 5min. away)
The ticket office is located inside of the house. You pay the fee after enter the gate.
No Pet.
See the garden from the house.
Remove your shoes when you enter the house.
When you visit over 20 people, you must make a reservation.
Admission: 500 yen for adult, 250 yen for under junior high.
There is a group discount.
Time: 9:00 to 17:00 (Last entry 16:30)
Closed: Monday.(When Monday is holiday, nearest weekday will be closed.)

0. at Nagaoka Station.
1. use JR Shinetsu Line to Yasuda Station.
2. use Hokuetsu Okanomachi line bus to Teikanenmae.

Teikanen

Teikanen garden was built by Murayama Family when they moved at this place in 1673. It is a beautiful pond surrounding style garden with over 100 different kinds of moss. In 1784, the main house was constructed. The name "Teikan" was named by Kanzawa Nanjo accoding with Chinese poem.

There are 3 different gardens surrounding the house and they are designated as the national scenic beauty.

-Sannoma Room-
Emperor Meiji used that large table.

-Doragon Woven Fabric-
Kyoto Nishizin Woven Fabric made in 1781 to 1789.

-Kikuchi Yosai's room-
There are paintings of Yosai who is the famous artist during the Edo period.
