Shimizu-en garden (新発田清水園) is a beautiful garden Japanese garden located in Shibata, Niigata. It was used to be Japanese garden for Daimyo of Shibata, and its beautiful view is registered as national scenic beauty. This garden was constructed in late 17th century. It is a typical pond surrounding style garden. Many tea houses are also surrounding this large pond. There are 8 beautiful views of Omi.

There is parking and restroom.
Admission: 700 yen for adult, 300 yen for under junior high.
Close: Wed. on Jan. and Feb.
Time: 9:00 to 17:00 (16:30 from Nov. to Mar.)
Ticket is the same is Ashigaru Nagaya.
There is a group discount.

Shimizu-en garden

Shimizu-en garden was constructed by 4th lord of Shibata, Mizoguchi Shigekatsu. It was the garden of Shimo-yashiki of Daimyo.

In 1666, Shigekatsu invited the tea master, Agata Souchi, and asked him to design his garden. He takes the eight scenic beauty of Omi. It is kyoto style Japanese garden. It is a tyical pond surrounding garden. There are several tea houses that surruing tea houses. Each tea house has different views.

the main building of this garden. It was constructed in 1693. It took 27 years.

Museum
… displays Samurai armors, and art from Daimyo House.

Kuroiwa House
It remaining Samurai House. Kuroiwa family was 70 koku that is low class Samurai.
