Nagahama (長浜) is Edo Style town located east side of Lake Biwa, in Shiga prefecture. There is a post town that remains many traditional buildings that has the scenery of Edo period.

There is parking. No restroom.

Access
0. at Maibara Station.
1. use JR Hokuriku Line to Nagahama Station.
2. walk east.

Nagahama

Nagahama was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Sengoku period. It was his first castle and its town. During the Edo period, it became the post town of Hokurikudo that connects Nakasendo and the side of sea of Japan.

There are many traditional buildings that is still used for shops, restaurants and cafe. It offers you the walking around the Edo period.

Nagahama Castle
Nagahama Castle is located east side of Lake Biwa. It was built Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1573. This castle was the first land for Hideyoshi given by Nobunaga. He spend three to four years to built this castle. Castle used lots of stone walls, and there is a port so that ships could enter this castle directly. There is a reconstructed castle which built in 1983.
