Mt. Shichimen

Travel Information

Mt. Shichimen (七面山, shichimensan) is one of famous mountains which has great view of Mt. Fuji. It is located Hayakawa Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. The summit of the mountain is 1989m high and there is Keishinin Temple on the top of the mountain. Keishinin is one of sacred temple of Nichiren Buddhism, and many believers practice at this temple. Also, because Mt. Shichimen is located exact west of Mt. Fuji, at Spring and Autumnal Equinox Day, the sun rise from the top of Mt. Fuji. This phenomenon is called "Diamond Fuji." It is also called "Goraiko."

3 hours of climbing to the top of the mountain. If you want to view the "Diamond Fuji," you can stay at Keishinin Temple.

0. Kofu Station.
1. JR Minobu Line to Minobu (1hr. 10 min.)
2. use bus to (Shichimensantozanguchi)
3. use shuttle bus to the entrance
4. climb to the top (3 hr.)

Mt. Shichimen

All the way to the top of Mt. Shichimen is divided by 50 stations. Every quoter way, there is a tea house you can rest and buy some food and drink. When you stayed at the temple, you will also join the buddhist worship. The entire mountain is belong to the temple and better not to bring any raw foods, such as meat or fish. Keishinin Temple enshrines Shichimen Daimyojin. and after the worship you will have a sacred paper.

This mountain is also well known as the Diamond Fuji spots. At the Spring and Autumnal Equinox Day, many photographers visit here and try to catch the moment.
