Mt. Oyama

Travel Information

Mt. Oyama (大山) is one of the most popular hiking spots in Kanagawa. It is located west of Kanagawa, approximately 2 hours from Tokyo and Yokohama. Mt. Oyama is 1,252m high, and on the top of the mountain, there are a beautiful landscape of entire Kanto Region and Mt. Fuji. When the air is clear, you can even see Tokyo Metro.

Mt. Oyama

Oyama is the mountain of Afuri Shrine. Afuri Shrine was built in 97 B.C.E. Many Samurai, such as Minamoto no Yoritomo visit here and prayed their success. There are two Afuri Shrine. Lower and Upper. The Upper shrine is located on the top of Mt. Oyama. Cable car accesses to the Lower Shrine which altitude is 700m from the sea level. Many people start hiking from the lower shrine.

The hiking course of Mt. Oyama takes 4 hours.
