Travel Information

Kawagoe (川越) is also known as little Edo “Koedo.” About 6 million travelers visit Kawagoe, and one of the biggest travel spot in Saitama. This city has developed as the important defense line to protect Edo city, and also developed very similar town of Edo. Moreover, because many classic houses which survived from big fire in 1893, people still use those classic houses for restaurants and any other kinds of shops. This street is called “Kurazukuri.” Therefore, the town still looks like little Edo. Also, There are many historical temple like Kitain Temple.

Kurazukuri
…is the most popular travel spot in Kawagoe. It has many classic building built in Edo period and still used for various kinds of shops and restaurants.

Tokino Kane – Bell of Time
… is the main feature of Kurazukuri. It is also from Edo period and it still ring time bell since Edo Period.

Kashiya Yokocho
… is another popular spot in Kawagoe. It has all kinds of Japanese sweets especially traditional sweets. Because all the sweets are cheap, and very close from Kurazukuri Street, many tourist visit here and enjoy Japanese sweets.

Kitain Temple
… is historical temple built in 9th century. Third Tokugawa Shogun, Iemitsu, was born in here. The house of his birth place are still preserved well. There are beautiful garden and 500 monk statues are also famouse in Kitain Temple..
