Record said Kamigamo Shrine was established in the time of the first Emperor. The god, Kamowakeikazuchino Okami, descented at Mt. Kamo.
Kamigamo Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto. Kamo clan was a very powerful family since ancient times. Since the Heian period, many people including the imperial families highly respected.
