Hozenji Temple

Hozenji Temple(法善寺) is the temple of Rinzai school Buddhism located in Nagatoro, Saitama. This temple was built in 1476 by monk Inseido and Yasukuni Fujita. Fujita was the land master of Tenjin Castle at that time. The main temple was built in 1739. Hozenji Temple, now, is very famous for its Shidare-zakura and other flowers. In the beginning of April, many Sakura bloom. Two Shidare-zakura at the entrance are chosen as the treasure of Nagatoro Town. Hozenji’ is also known as the temple of Fujibakama (Thoroughwort). It will bloom in August to October.

Hozenji Temple

Hozenji Temple is very famous for its Sakura and flower garden. Most of the flowers bloom in the beginning of April. There are several kinds of Sakura in this temple, and Shidare-zakura at the entrance is beautiful. Also, in the garden, there are another kinds of Shidare-zakura which has beautiful pink flowers. Fujibakama in Hozenji is also well known. From August to October, they bloom light pink flowers.

Hozenji Temple also has many historical Buddha statue and beautiful caving. Especially, eleven faces Kannon statue is made in 16th century. It has the power to protect the people from the disaster. Three Buddha statues are also beautiful and prayed for people’s dream and hope.
