Travel Information

Hirado (平戸) is one of the castle town with christian arts located in Nagasaki prefecture. There are many Samurai style houses, castle, temples and beautiful Christian Church. Hirado is also used to be the internationa port town during the early Edo period. Therefore, there are many ruins of European cultures which are very rare in Japan.

Hirado
St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church
St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church is a beautiful green church located in Hirado. This church was built for 1931. It is located on a hill and becomes a symbolic view of Hirado with Temple.

Matsuura Historical Museum
Matsuura Historical Museum is one of the Samurai House remaining in Hirado. It was used to be the house for the lord of Hirado domain, Matsuura clan. This house was constructed in 1893, and today it opens as the museum that displays many treasure of Matsuura clan.

Hirado Castle
Hirado Castle is one of the hilltop castle located in Hirado, Nagasaki Prefecture. It is chosen as one of the 100 best castles in Japan. It was constructed in 1599 by Matsuura clan. This castle is very strong because it is surrounded by sea. There are the gate, tower, stone walls and baileys remaining in original building.

Dutch Wall
Dutch Wall is one of the historic site in Hirado. This plaster wall along stone steps was constructed from 1609 to 1641. It is 2m tall wall and one of few ruins from Edo period.

Saiwai Bridge
Saiwai Bridge is one of the historic site in Hirado. This bridge was constructed in 1702. This bridge is one of the first Dutch Style Stone Bridge built in Japan.
