Ninen-zaka and Sannen-Zaka (二念坂・産寧坂) are great shopping streets around eastern Kyoto, between Gion and Kiyomizu Temple. There are many food shops, restaurants and gift shops which offers you the taste of of Kyoto. Both streets also have great Kyoto style view with traditional buildings. Those buildings are registered as the preserved area with important historical buildings. So, they are definitely one of the best streets for walking around with Kimono in Kyoto.

There is no parking or public restroom.

1. use Local bus (207 city bus) to Kiyomizu michi.

Located 30 min. from Osaka and 2 and half hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen.

Ninen-zaka
... is located south side of Kodaiji Temple. Ninen-zaka literary means 2 years slop. The legend said that if you fall at Ninen-zaka, you will die within two years. If you fall at Sannen-zaka, you will die within three years. Therefore, no one in this area run in both street.

Sannen-zaka
... is actually called Sainen-zaka which literary means "praying for easy baby birth." People used to visit Kiyomizu temple for their child birth. They used this slope to visit Kiyomizu temple. Later, this slope was named "Sainen-zaka.

Akemonotei Incident in Meiji Restration happened at this place.
