Odaka Castle

Odaka Castle (大高城) is a hilltop castle located south of Nagoya. It is one of the spot related to the battle of Okehazama. Tokugawa Ieyasu carried food during the battle. Today, it is a public park.

Odaka Castle

Type: Hilltop
Built in: Namboku era
Class: Ruins

It appears in the period of Namboku era. It was ruled by Mizuno clan. In 16th century, this castle became under control of Oda Nobuhide.
In 1548, Imagawa tried to attack this castle but he couldn defeat this castle.
However, when Nobuhide died and his son Nobunaga succeeded Oda clan, Yamaguchi who was the lord of Narumi Castle turned himself to Imagawa side and he involved Odaka castle, too.

In 1560, Odaka castle was surrounded many fortresses. Ieyasu moved this castle to carried food and attack those fortresses.
When Imagawa heard that Odaka castle was saved, he moved from Kutsukake castle to Odaka castle. However, on the way to the castle Imagawa was attacked by Nobunaga and Killed. This is called the battle of Okehazama.
After Imagawa's death, Ieyasu moved back to Okazaki castle and this castle was abandoned for a while.
In 1616, Karo of Owari, Shimizu clan rebuilt this castle for their land.
Odaka castle had two layers of moats. In this park, honmaru and ninomaru are preserved well. The hills, dry moat of those baileys remains.
At Honmaru, there is Shiroyama Hachiman Shrine.
