Yodo Castle (淀城) is a flatland castle located in southern Kyoto. It was built in 1623 by Matsudaira Tsunasada under the order of Hidetada, the 2nd Tokugawa Shogun. The moat and stone walls remains as the original structure. Currently, it restructured as the park.

There is no parking.
There is restroom.

1. use Kintetsu Kyoto LIne to Yodo.
2. walk south (10 min.)

Located 30 min. from Osaka and 2 and half hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen.

Detailed Travel Guide for Yodo Castle

Type: Flatland.
Built in: 1623 by Matsudaira Sadatsuna.
Class: Ruins.

This castle was built to watch Osaka and western lands for protection of Edo castle. In 1723, Inaba clan was given this land.

Tenshu
There was 5 layers 5 stories Tenshukaku in this castle. There is a picture which shows the detail.

Ironically speaking, this castle was built for protecting Edo from west, but during the Meiji Restoration, it was used to attack Edo by western people.

Note: This castle is not the castle where Hideyoshi's side wife, Chacha stayed.
