Ohara-juku (大原宿) is a remaining post town located in eastern Okayama prefecture. It was used to be a post town between the land Harima and Inaba. The entire site of Ohara is preserved as a traditional scenic beauty. Many traditional Edo style houses are still existed in this town.

Not many restaurants in this town.

Access
0. at Tsuyama Station.
1. use JR Himeshin Line to Sayou Station (1 hr.)
2. use Chizu Line to Ohara (50 min.)
3. walk west (10 min.)

All remaining traditional houses have strong fire protections (Hikaeshi, great walls of North and south, access dirt floor), therefore, even there were four fire disasters, those houses still exist today.

Features of Ohara Town
Dashigeta: the supporters of 2nd roofs.
Namako Kabe: the wall made with Kawara.
Sodekabe: Fire protection on walls. It designed as the cloud or water.
Mushigomado: windows of 2nd floor storage.

Honjin
... is a hotel for Daimyo during Daimyo parade. This building was built in late 18th century.

Waki-Honjin
... is a hotel where Samurai of Daimyo stayed. It was built in early 19th century.
