Mt. Kinkei

Travel Information

Mt. Kinkei (金鶏山) is a 98.6 m tall mountain located in Hiraizumi. This site is registered as UNESCO world heritage site of Hiraizumi. Kinkei literary means golden chucky. Legend said, Fujiwara no Hidehira made an artificial mountain imitated Mt. Fuji, and buried golden statue of chucky on this mountain.

There is no parking and restroom.

0. at Ichinoseki Station.
1. use JR Tohoku Line to Hiraizumi.

Around the week of the spring and Autumn equinoxes, the setting sun is aligned with Mount Kinkei, which is just behind the temple, in this beautiful landscape, the Amida Hall,silhouetted against the sunset was the Pure Land which Hidehira intended.
