Izumo (出雲) is located eastern Shimane Prefecture. It is one of the most popular tourist spot in Japan because of the grand shrine of Izumo, Izumo Oyashiro in Japanese. Izumo Oyashiro is the top shrine of all 8 million Japanese gods, and appears in Japanese Myth. It enshrines Okuninushi no Okami, the leader of Japanese gods and founder of the nation who offers the nation to Amaterasu Omikami, the ancestor of the imperial family. Therefore, it is considered as the most important shrine in the history of Japan. Today, it is very popular shrine for matchmaking. Many people worship Izumo Shrine for their own matchmaking.

The Grand Shrine of Izumo, Izumo Oyashiro (Izumo Taisya)
Izumo Oyashiro is very famous for matchmaking today. In Japan, October is called "Kannazuki." It means month of no gods because all Japanese national gods are assembled at Izumo Oyashiro. Therefore, in Izumo, October is called "Kamiarizuki." From October 11 to 17 (in the old lunar calendar), all gods travel to Izumo Oyashiro and stay at Jukusya of the shrine. They enter Izumo from Inasa Beach where Amaterasu Omikami and Okuninushi no Okami conclude the treaty of Kuniyuzuri, and travel to the shrine. This period, Matsuri called Kamiarisai is held. In this period, all gods discuss about the people's relationships, and make new relationships and fix old relationships of people. Therefore, people highly respect that Izumo Oyashiro has a power to make a great relationship.

Goen Yokocho
Small shopping district located right next to the Torii Gate. There are about 9 shops that offers local Izumo food and souvenirs.

Izumo Soba
Izumo is also very famous for its Soba. There are many Soba noodle restaurants around the shrine.

Inasa Beach
… is where Amaterasu Omikami and Okuninushi no Okami conclude the treaty of Kuniyuzuri. It is located west side of Izumo Oyashiro. In October, all 8 million gods enter Izumo from this beach.
