National Scenery

Hori House and Garden (旧堀氏庭園) is one of the traditional houses and beautiful Japanese-style garden located in Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture. It is also very popular for Koyo, the Autumn leaves, in Shimane. There are two huge traditional houses and 4 different gardens. One of the houses is constructed in the Edo period and the other is the Meiji period. The scenery of this garden is registered as the national scenery of Japan.

There is parking and a restroom.
Admission: 500 yen for adults, 200 yen for kids.
Times: 9:00 to 16:00
Closed: on Monday.

0. at Masuda city.
1. use the JR Yamaguchi Line to Tsuwano Station.
2. use a local bus to Nagano. 20 min. Horiteienn.

Kyu Horishi Teien is one of the traditional houses located in south-western Shimane Prefecture. It is surrounded by mountains and known as Koyo spots. It is considered the Little Kyoto of Sanin. There are 2 houses and 4 gardens. The main garden was designed in the Edo period, and the garden of 2nd house was designed in the Meiji period. The scenery uses the background as a part of the garden.
