Ashigara Mountain Pass

Ashigara Mountain Pass (足柄峠) is one of the best Mt. Fuji view spots located on the border of Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefecture. It was used to be a part of Tokaido before Hakone. The altitude of the pass is 759m from the sea level. During the Sengoku period, there was a castle at this place.

Ashigara Mountain Pass

Ashigara Pass is located on the border of Kanagawa and Shizuoka Prefecture. It is 759m tall mountain pass. It was used to be a part of Tokaido Road until the beginning of Edo period.

Because it connect Suruga and Sagami, it was very important road between east and west. In 899, people built Sekisho at this place. Also, the late Heian period, there was a castle as well.

Because it has a great view of Mt. Fuji and many travelers walk since Heian period, many people read a poem here.
