Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace (韮山反射炉) is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture. This is only the remaining one in Japan. This Furnace was constructed in 1857 by Egawa Takuan who was the Shogun Government Officer. There two twin towers, four towers in total. There is a museum that displays the history and old tools of this reverberatory Furnace.

There are parking and restroom.
Admission: 500 JPY for Adult, Under Junior High 50 JPY.
There is a group discount.
Business: 9:00 to 17:00 (Apr. to Sep.) 16:30 (Oct. to Mar.)
Closed: Wednesday (When Wednesday is Holiday, closed on the next day)

During the end of Edo period, Samurai period was coming to the end because many western countries forced Japan to open the port. Shogun Government decided to approve the western technologies for producing powerful weapons. The Reverberatory Furnace was one of those technologies that Shogun Government built to protect Japan.

Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace was constructed in 1857 by Egawa Takuwan and his son Hidetoshi.

It is the only remaining Reverberatory Furnace in Japan and registered as the UNESCO World Heritage Site,"Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining."
