Nagahama Castle

Type: Waterside Castle.
Built in: 1573 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Class: reconstructed.

Before Hideyoshi built the castle, there is a small fort built by Sasaki Takauji in Muromachi era.

In 1574, after the battle of Anekawa, he moved the castle town of Odani to Nagahama. Nagahama was called Imahama, and he renamed it to Nagahama after his lord Nobunaga. He also used the materials of Odani castle to built a castle.

In 1583, Hideyoshi won the battle of Shizukadake against Shibata Katsuie and became the successor of Nobunaga. He gave this castle to Yamanouchi Kazutoyo, and he ruled this castle for 5 years.

The castle was abandoned in 1615, and most of the materials were used for Hikone Castle.
