Asuka Shrine (阿須賀神社) is the oldest shrine in Kumano. It is located in Shingu, Wakayama prefecture. It is located Mt. Renna that is considered as the perfect Kannabi mountain where god appears from the heaven. Mt. Hona is 48m high and there is Kumano River on the north side of the mountain. In front of this mountain, the water of the river and ocean mix perfectly at high tide. That is called "Musubi." The water of the river is considered as "Yin." The water of ocean is "Yang." "Yin and Yang" is also very important philosophy in Shintoism. Asuka Shrine is the only few sacred place where those three terms, "Kannabi" "Musubi" and "Yin and Yang," appears at the same location.
