Horaisan Toshogu Shrine

Horaisan Toshogu Shrine (鳳来山東照宮) is located in Mt. Horaiji, Aichi Prefecture. This shrine was established in 1651 by Tokugawa Iemitsu dedicated to his grandfather Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is one of the main features of Mt. Horaiji. The main buildings, gates and walls are the original structures and registered as the national important cultural assets.

There are parking and restroom.
Takes about 4 hours round trip.

1. use JR Iida Line Honnagashino Station.
2. use a local bus to Horaijisan.

Horaisan Toshogu Shrine
Horaisan Toshogu is considered as the one of the 3 important Toshogu Shrines (Nikko and Kunosan). It was constructed in 1651 by Tokugawa Iemitsu. When he read the book about his grandfather Ieyasu who was born around this area, he decided to donate founding to Horaiji temple and ordered to built Toshogu Shrine here. The main script of this shrine, the statue of Ieyasu, was placed from the Edo castle.
