The grave of Goto Matabe (後藤又兵衛の墓) is located in Yaba Valley, Oita Prefecture. Goto Matabe is one of the great Samurai for Toyotomi Hideyori, the son of Hideyoshi, fought against Tokugawa Ieyasu in the siege of Osaka in 1614. This grave was re-made by Ifuku Mokichi in 1763.

The grave of Goto Matabe

Goto Matabe Mototsugu
1560 to 1615

Goto Matabe is one of the great Samurai of Toyotomi clan. He was used to be Samurai of Kuroda clan. In the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he killed Samurai of Ishida Mitsunari and win the land of Okuma.

However, he left Kuroda clan in 1606. He was hired by Toyotomi Hideyori in 1614 at the siege of Osaka. He fought well, but he was killed by Katakura Kojuro, the samurai of Date Masamune. He was burried at there.

Legend in Oita said, he took Hidyori and escaped from Osaka castle and arrived at Oita. In 1654, when Hideyori died, he committed Seppuku and burried at Ifuku, Oita.
