Goryo's Tea House Honjin is located on Nakasendo Road just nearby Usui Sekisho Gate. It was used for resting houses while Daimyo was waiting the process of passage at Sekisho. Therefore, there is no many rooms in these houses. However, there are Shoin Style Room for the special guests. It was used also for the government office of this area.
There are two houses. Both of them were constructed in 1806. They are called O-nishi (the west) and O-higashi (the east). They are register as historical sight of Gunma.
O-Higashi
It was used until 1992. It is Kiritsuma Style 2 stories building. It is fully restored as the house of Edo period. There is huge doma with stable and bathroom, Shoin Room, living room and restroom.
O-Nishi
It was used until 1973. It Kirituma Style 2 stories building. There is a beautiful Karesansui style garden in front of the house. Behind the garden you can see beautiful Mt. Myogi.
Emperor Meiji rested at this house.
