Minowa Castle

Minowa Castle (箕輪城) is a hilltop castle located in Takasaki, Gunma. It is one of the greatest and strongest castle in Kanto region. Minowa castle was built by Nagano clan in 1512, and he defeated Takeda Shingen many times with this castle. The area of this castle is 1,100m noth-south and 500m west-east. Many dry moat, dirt hills, stone walls and baileys remains in great conditions. Therefore, it is registered as the national historic site and one of 100 best Japanese castle.

Minowa Castle

Minowa castle is one of the strongest hilltop castle in Kanto region. It was built in 1512 by Nagano clan. Nagano clan ruled around the area of Takasaki and served for Yamanouchi Uesugi clan. When Takeda Shingen, one of the strongest Daimyo during the Sengoku era, invaded Kanto region, Nagano and this castle defeated Shingen many times.

Minowa castle was fallen in 1566 and abandoned in 1598 when Ii Naomasa, the load of the castle at that time, moved to Takasaki Castle.

The main feature of this castle is the huge dry moat. It is 30m wide and 10m deep.
