Kiyosu Castle

Kiyosu Castle (清洲城) is the ruins of castle located in west Aichi. It was built in 1405 by Shiba Yoshishige. It was a castle to govern western Owari and in 1478, Oda clan moved this castle. Since then, Kiyosu Castle was the capital of Kiyosu Oda clan. It is very famous because Oda Nobunaga's great career began at this castle. Today, there is reconstructed castle on the other side of the river, and beautiful statue of Oda Nobunaga is placed.

Kiyosu Castle

Kiyosu Castle was built in 1406 by Shiba Yoshishige as the brunch castle of Orizu Castle, but in the battle evoked by Oda clan, Orizu castle was burnt down. In 1478, the government moved to Kiyosu Castle and it became the capital of Owari.

Later, Oda Nobuhide moved his government to Furuwatari Castle, Oda Nobutomo moved this castle, but he was killed by Oda Nobunaga, the son of Nobuhide. Nobunaga moved from Nagoya Castle, and stayed at Kiyosu castle for about 10 years.

In 1582, when Nobunaga was killed at Honnoji Temple, the conference of Kiyosu happened and Kiyosu Castle was succeeded by Nobukatsu.

Fukushima Masanori, and Tokugawa Yoshinao ruled this castle for a while.

In 1610, the capital of Owari was moved from Kiyosu to Nagoya and abandoned.

Today, there is reconstructed castle built in 1989.
