Arafune Wind Cave

Arafune Wind Cave (荒船風穴) is one of historic site that registered as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites. It was wind cave that was used for the storage for silkworms. Cold wind from from the mountains brow from the cave even in summer. It remains a great conditions.

Admission: 500 Yen for adult. Free for under highschool.
Closed: 12/1 to 3/31
Time: 9:30 to 16:00
It is very far from Parking and road is very steep.

Access
Need car. Get off at Shimonita of Joetsu Express way. Drive 254 to west.

Arafune Wind Cave

Arafune Fuketsu is one of the national historic sites located westend of Gunma Prefecture. It was used to for the storage for silkworms. Silk was very important products in Meiji Period. It was one of the biggest exporting products that help Japanese industrial revolution. It is the largest wind cave for silkworm and because of its historical value, it is registered as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The altitude of the cave is 840m from the sea level. Therefore, cold wind brows from the cave even in Summer.
