Torinoichi at Otori Shrine (鷲神社酉の市) in Asakusa is the biggest and most popular Torinoichi in Tokyo. Torinoichi of Otori Shrine happens twice or three times a year in November since Edo period. It is Matsuri which also sales Kumade, one the Shinto Lucky items. Thousands of people worship at this shrine in Matsuri and buy Kumade for their business fortune. Kumade is one of lucky item in Japanese tradition. It shapes a claws of falconine which represents gathering luck and wealth. There are many Kumade shops sales unique Kumade. None of them has the same figure.

Torinoichi at Otori Shrine

Torinoichi was originated in this shrine during Edo period. It was used to be called Tori no Machi. So, it was Matsuri. Later, because this Matsuri sales Kumade, they change their name to Torinoichi.

Kumade
Kumade is one of Japanese Traditional Lucky Item. It shapes a claws of falconine which represents gathering luck and wealth. It is decorated with many other good luck items, such as Ofuku, Shimenawa, rice bales, Manekineko and seven lucky gods.

Torinoichi happens at Torinohi in November. Torinohi, the bird day, is different every year. So, please check out the day for this Matsuri.
