Battle of Odawara

In 1590, Odawara Castle which was the home ground of Hojo, the strongest Daimyo (feudal lord) in Kanto Area, was surrounded by the military of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Hojo clan was the last resistance for Hideyoshi to take over Japan. Odawara Castle was the biggest castle in the world at that moment. However, Hideyoshi surrounded by the biggest army of Japan. Hojo's plan was use all of castles in Kanto, to against Hideyoshi by guerrilla attacking. However, Hideyoshi defeated all those castle one by one with all his samurai, and finally Odawarajo was fallen. And this was the sign of that Hideyoshi conquered all over Japan.

Travel Information

Odawara Castle (小田原城, odawarajo) is located at Odawarain Kanagawa Prefecture. It is categorized as a hill castle built at 1417 by Oomori. During the Odawara battle which happened at 1590, Late Hojo, who was the owner of the castle at that time, made great walls which surrounded not only the castle but also his towm so that Odawara Castle became the biggest castle in the world. Current Tenshu (keep tower) is rebuilt at 1960.

Entrance fee for Tenshu: 400 yen. Open from 8:00 to 21:00.
There are history museum and art gallery in the park.
