Shiraishi Castle (白石城) is a hilltop castle located Shiraishi, Miyagi. It is very popular castle of Katakura Kojuro, the famous Samurai of Date Masamune. It was one of few castles remained after Edo period. The castle appears during Meiji Restoration. The Union of Oou (Tohoku) was established here to against new government. In April, many Cherry blossom (Sakura) bloom, and one of popular Hanami Spots around the area.

There is a parking and restroom.
Admission for Tenshu-kaku: 300 for adult, 150 for kids.
Open: 9:00 to 17:00 (winter:16:00)

Detailed Travel Guide for Shiraishi Castle

Castle Type: Hilltop
Built in: Kamakura Period
Class: Reconstructed

Originally, Shiraishi Castle was built in Kamakura Period by Shiraishi Clan. After the battle of Sekigahara, Date Masamune give this caslte to Katakura Kojuro. This was one of few brunch castles which had not destroyed by the order of "One Country has only One Caslte" in 1615.

During the Meiji Restoration, Oouetsu Union against new government was established in this castle.

Current Castle was reconstructed in 1995. It has Tenshu, Stone walls, the gate and storage.
