Shimoda Bay (下田湾) is located South of Izu Peninsula. Because it is located on the most South of Izu Peninsula, the port of Shimoda Bay have been developed since Edo Period. In 1854, Shimoda port was opened to the USA by US Navy Commander Perry. This was the beginning of the Meiji Restoration, and the end of Edo Period. Today, it is popular travel spot of Izu Peninsula. It has all kinds of marine activities, fishing, crusing, water skying, body boarding, surfing, scuba diving, and wake boarding. Also, wind surfing, and Kayak are popular in Shimoda.
