Travel Information

Erinji temple (恵林寺) is Rinzai Buddhism Zen Temple located in Enzan Yamanashi Prefecture. It is the most famous temple in Yamanashi prefecture. It was established in 1330 by Priest Muso Soseki. Erinji flourished as the main temple of Kai Takeda Clan. Takeda Shingen especially helped developing this temple. Therefore, the grave of Takeda Shingen is located in this temple. This temple was burnt down by Oda Nobunaga 1582. After that Tokugawa Ieyasu took over Kai and restored Erinji. Today, Erinji is still highly respected as the temple of Takeda clan. It has also beautiful Sakura that bloom in early April.

Admission: 300 yen for adult, 100 yen for under high school.

Erinji temple

Erinji is Rinzai BUddhism Temple located in Kosyu, Yamanashi Prefecture. It was established in 1330 by Priest Muso Kokushi. In 1576, Takeda Shingen desided Erinji as the temple of Takeda clan. As the temple of Takeda clan, it's been highly respected for all Samurai and Daimyo. Therefore, there are graves of Takeda Shingen and his samurai.

Erinji was burnt down when Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu attacked Takeda Katsuyori. After the death of Nobunaga, Ieyasu restored this temple.

The back garden of Erinji temple is designated as the national scenic beauty. Prist Muso Kokushi designed this garden in Kamakura period.

It has beautiful Sakura that bloom in early April.

Shikyaku mon gate
It was constructed in 1606 and registered as the national important cultural assets. This gate was built by Tokugaw Ieyasu.
