Imai House (旧今井家住宅) is one of remaining merchant houses in Mino. It is designated as Important Cultural Asset of Mino City. It was built in Edo period, and one of the oldest houses which remains in Mino. This house was the warehouse of Mino Washi paper. Because Mino was was great business during Edo period and became more powerful in Meiji period, this house has many high class architectures and furniture. Also, there are four Kura, the storages, remains and opened as the folk art museum. In the middle garden, there is water harp called "Suikinkutsu." The sound of Suikinkutsu is designated as one of 100 best sound of scenery in Japan.

Admission: 300 yen for adult, under Junior high is free. There is group discount from 20 persons.
Open: 9:00 to 16:30 (last entry is 16:15)
Closed: Tuesday of Dec, Jan, Feb.

Imai House

Built in the middle of Edo period.
It is about 280 years old. As common merchant house during Edo period. It is very narrow on width, and very deep in depth because the city tax was depended on the width which faced on main street. However, because Imai family was very wealthy, they have 9 rooms in main house. Most of houses in this type has 6 rooms. You can see many advanced technology to use natural light.

The front area of the house still remains the view of Edo warehouses.

Udats of Imai House is the oldest Udatsu, therefore it is very simple.

The size of enter residence is 923 square meters, and the house is 317 square meters.

-Suikinkutsu-
The sound is registered as one of 100 best sounds of scenery in Japan. There are only two Suikinkutsu registered as 100 best sounds of scenery.

Kura no. 01 displays Udatsu.
Kura no. 02 displays Niwaka comedy.
Kura no. 03 displays local art works from famous Mino artist.
Kura no. 04 is used for the display of Hana-Mikoshi. Also, it is used for exhibition for local artists.
