Sankeien Garden

Yokohama Sankeien (三溪園) is a garden presenting Japanese beauty and where you will meet elegance of four seasons and historic charm. Sankeien is a traditional and typical Japanese- style garden designed and landscaped by Sankei Hara. He preserved old building of historic importance from place such as Kyoto and Kamakura, removed them in this garden. In the garden, 17 old buildings of high historic value are skillfully arranged in harmony with the seasonal changes of the natural scenery.

Entrance fee: 500 yen, 200 yen for kids, and 300 yen seniors.
Open 9:00 to 17:00 (close the gate at 16:30)

Sankeien GardenExperience the Japanese historic and traditional style of garden. Sankeien has many those important building removed and rebuild from Kyoto and Kamakura. No need to travel Kyoto or even Kamakura, you can enjoy great temples and buildings just visiting this garden.

Outer Garden
The extension is the area that was made open to the general public in 1906. The three-storied pagoda, relocated from Tomyoji-temple in Kyoto, has been positioned as a landmark, and extension's main attraction is its many seasonal flowers.

Inner Garden
Until it opening to the public in 1958, this area was the private garden of the Hara family. WHile the outer garden was created for the purpose of enjoying flowers, the inner garden is an elegant composition of old architecture. In particular, the landscape that includes Rinshunkaku, a historic buidling built in the middle of the 17th century and that was long related to the Kishu branch of the Tokugawa family, is often compared with the world- famous Katsura Rikyu Palace in Kyoto.

Enjoy Tea ceremony!
You can enjoy great Japanese tea ceremony made by great tea masters.
400 yen for maccha green tea and sweets. You can also experience making tea. The tea master will kindly teach you how to make tea.

All of the valuable properties and great correction of Hara family are displayed at the museum. Mr. Hara supported many young artists.
